Spiral Betty

I sketched her face last night.

I envisioned her hair early this morning, like around 5 am, as I was lying in bed, trying to sleep, but wide awake.

The background, a nod to Klimt.

The name, a play on Robert Smithson's 'Spiral Jetty'

A collaboration of ideas, and somehow an image emerges.
Sometimes it works, sometimes it doesn't.
I like this one

Awesome. Love the way it comes together. Love the cockeyed spirals of the hair.

This is something I often do. I mean getting ideas in that magic moment between sleep and awakening. That's a nice character, and the colour choice is very elegant.

Me too! I really like the way the hair spirals and the background spirals echo each other. And in this one, the map lines on her face and neck seem especially to be tracing some inner direction in her. Great colors too.

Hi Sarah,
Thanks for your lovely comment on my illustration. I am so glad you visited as I might not have found your blog and your beautiful work. Spiral Betty has fantastic hair and I too like the way the background echoes it. I love the red of her hair against the blue.
Sarah :)
